Why I designed it
The dark half of the year changes how you walk. Suddenly the morning round and the evening round both happen in the dark, and you spend them wondering whether the car at the corner has seen you.
I wanted something I could clip on without thinking, that would last the season on a charge cycle or two, and that did not look like a bicycle lamp on my dog's neck. Safety you actually use every day, because it is easy and because you do not mind how it looks.
What it took to get it right
The fitting was our starting point – a safety light is worthless if it works its way loose halfway through a walk. We used a silicone strap with several holes so it grips narrow and wide collars alike, and kept the whole unit light enough that it does not swing or pull.
Charging came next. A rechargeable USB-C battery means no hunting for coin cells in a drawer in November, and no small pile of dead batteries by spring. The housing is soft silicone where it meets the coat, and the finish is taupe rather than neon, because something your dog wears every dark evening should still look like it belongs.
Why customers love it
It solves a real problem in about three seconds. Strap it around the collar or harness, switch it on, and your dog is visible – to the car turning out of a driveway, to the cyclist on the path, to you when they run ahead into the dark.

My story
Hi, I’m Noa – designer and founder of Staey. I live in Denmark with my dog Alba, and I started Staey because I was tired of choosing between functionality and aesthetics.
Every Staey design starts with real moments from my life with my own Alba. I sketch the first ideas at my kitchen table, and my team and I test, tweak and adjust until it works – for your dog and for you. Because practical can (and should) look beautiful.
